President's Corner
Dear Fellow Akbayan-Fanew Members'
I am very honored to have the opportunity to serve you as President for the 2008-2009 term! It is my goal, as well as the goal of the Akbayan-Fanew Officers, to continue the work of the previous administration and build upon their many successes. It is with this desire that I ask for the active support of all members of Akbayan-Fanew. The success of our organization depends on the active participation of each member.
Our Organization is young and therefore, efforts are generally geared towards future growth and financial stability. To meet these needs, we will have a number of fundraising events. These include: the Summer Picnic, Golf and Bowling Tournaments,a Halloween Party and the Ms. Akbayan-Fanew Pageant. The latter will be our major fundraising event this year. Proceeds will go primarily towards establishing a Filipino Cultural Center to showcaseour heritage and provide a location for cultural presentations. This center will also serve as the main venue for Akbayan-Fanew meetings.
Presentation of candidates for Ms. Akbayan-Fanew 2008-2009 and 1st selections will take place at the summer picnic on July 19th. Final selection will occur at the Halloween Party and Coronation of Ms Akbayan-Fanew will be the nught of the Christmas Party on December 6th. Please be generous in support of this and all other fundraising events.
Our organization has already had one successful community event in Fond-Du-Lac! Several Akbayan-Fanew members and Officers served Filipino food and also participated in a Tinikling performance. a special "Thank you" goes out to all of you that helped to make this event a success!
We will continue to participate in future community events throughout NE Wisconsin to further enhance community awareness of the Filipino culture. If you know of any other upcoming opportunities to promote the Filipino culture, please contact me.
